Rugby League
Rugby League is a full contact sports played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field. One of the two codes of rugby, it originated in Northern England in 1895 as a split from the Rugby Football Union. Rugby League is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Rugby League.
Our Club | Oxford University Rugby League Football Club
The club, recently voted BUCs Club of the Year (2022), is always on the lookout for new players. Whether you’re a rugby league veteran or have never even seen a game, we welcome all players of all abilities – and pride ourselves on being one of the University’s most welcoming clubs.
The club currently consists of two men’s sides, the Blues and Maroons, and a women’s squad. Both men’s teams compete against other universities in BUCS, in the Premier South and West Divisions respectively. The women's team arranges their own matches and often play with the local Oxford Cavaliers. The teams compete throughout the season, with fixtures taking place on a weekly basis through Michaelmas and Hilary terms. The highlight of the year is the annual Varsity matches against Cambridge or the national tour to Ghana.

Inter-College | League & Cuppers
Rugby league has opportunities for men and women to get involved at college level in an inter-college tournament in Trinity Term. For more information on how to participate, please contact a club committee member or your college’s sports rep.
