Funding for Individual Athletes

Funding is provided to individual student athletes both directly and through clubs and colleges. Funding is only provided to current students of the University of Oxford and is not availabe to prospective students until they have taken up their place at Oxford. The individual funding streams available to Oxford students are: - 

Richard and Eliza Blackwell Sports Scholarship

The Richard and Eliza Blackwell Sports Scholarship is an annual award of £500 to one individual. The award must be spent on kit, travel, competition and training. The selected individual athlete is also eligible for 1 year’s complimentary membership at Oxford University Sport including the Rosenblatt Pool and gyms.This award is open to all students, from any sport, who are continuing to study at Oxford in the next academic year. The award is intended to provide extra financial and sporting support for elite athletes (county, national and international level) and reward commitment to both University and high-level sport.

This scholarships can be applied for via the Performance Athlete Application, which can be found via on our Blues Performance Scheme page. Applications for 20-21 are now open.

Sponsored Scholarships – BP

Our Sports Federation sponsor, BP, has kindly agreed to fund four sports scholarships to be awarded in 2019-20. Each selected scholar was awarded £500 to contribute to their continued sporting development. Individuals were selected based on the level they compete at and their personal achievements. Please be aware that this funding is dependant on sponsorship income and as such may not be available every year.

Vincent’s Awards

Vincent’s Club is proud that the Vincent’s Awards constitute the largest block of funding open to scholar-athletes practising any officially registered sport at Oxford University. In 2019-20 a total of £29,500 was awarded to Oxford students, in the form of 9 scholarships and 7 awards.

College Funding

Individual colleges, in some cases, offer funding or reimbursed for sports related expenses. Different colleges offer different levels of funding so the best way to find out is to contact your college directly to see if they can offer financial support.
