The Oxford University Motor Drivers’ Club (OUMDC) is inclusive to all forms of motorsport interest including eSports, and to every level of experience. The club began racing bikes and cars, and in more recent times, go-karting has become the primary activity.

The club offers indoor karting events, hosts the annual inter-college Cuppers Competition, and encourages experienced drivers to compete in the British Indoor Karting Championship and the outdoor British Universities Karting Championship. The club also arranges a variety of social events and motorsport trips.

Our Club | The fastest club in the university…

The OUMDC was established in 1934 to contest the ‘Battle of the Blues’ race event with Cambridge University. The competition ignited an intense sporting rivalry which would become the prestigious annual Varsity Match.

The vast majority of our members when they first join the club start having never been karting or raced just once before. Rest assured that previous experience of karting is not necessary, and no driving licence is required. All members receive driving instructions and a safety briefing each time we go karting. There are no gears – just an accelerator and a brake pedal. The seat and pedal positions can be adjusted for comfort. The safety and protective racewear is all provided; members simply ‘arrive and drive’. The club organises travelling together to karting events.

The club develops practical initiatives to cultivate greater diversity within motorsport, and to foster a more inclusive club for everyone. The club welcomes beginners, and aims to increase the participation of women. The club is proudly sponsored and supported by TeamSport Indoor Karting, the UK’s largest karting company, who provide exclusive eligibility to subsidised membership of the highest tier and discounted race events.

When the chequered flag falls, and the helmets are off, the club ultimately serves to help members make new friends, build community, and have a good time! Since 1934 many lasting friendships have been formed through the club, and alumni members are invited to special Veteran events.

We look forward to welcoming you to the fastest club in the university!
