Karate Do Shotokai

Karate Do Shotokai session taking place

Karate-do Shotokai is a non-competitive martial art that aims to empower people to improve themselves through the practice of Karate-do, the ‘way of the empty hand’. Our method of karate is based upon using a natural relaxed body condition. By learning how to release excessive muscular tension you can be more effective and powerful in your response and technique. Karate-do Shotokai is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Karate-do Shotokai.

Our Club | Oxford University Karate Do Shotokai

Oxford University KDS was founded in 2001 by Minh Chung. Minh is a 5th dan black belt, the highest grade awarded by the KDS. The club instructors (Minh & Ian) each have over 30 years experience. We pride ourselves on being a friendly, inclusive club and welcome undergraduates, postgraduates and staff of all abilities to all practices. Beginners are always welcome to any practice, as are those with other martial arts experience who are curious about Harada Sensei's karate. From your first sessions you will have the opportunity to practice with the senior grades and experience the effectiveness of a martial art. We train throught the year, for further information including vacation practice times please see our Facebook page.
