Basketball

Men playing basketball in the Oxford vs Cambridge Varsity match, with a crowd watching from behind the basket

Basketball is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Basketball.  Four of the club's competitive teams take part in an annual Varsity match against Cambridge and against other universities throughout the year in BUCS. Basketball also has a Wheelchair Basketball programme, and a big inter-college programme, featuring a league running in Michaelmas and Hilary terms and a cup in Trinity term, as well as 3x3 tournaments for wheelchair and able-bodied basketball.

Our Club | Oxford University Basketball Club

OUBbC has a long tradition of getting students throughout Oxford involved in basketball, with New York Knicks Bill Bradley (Mens Blues 1965-1967) and former US President Bill Clinton (Mens Twos, 1968) amongst its famous alumni.

OUBbC has five teams competing in the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) championships and national competitions : Mens Blues, Womens Blues, Mens Twos and Womens Twos in addition to a wheelchair basketball team. The club is therefore accessible for both wheelchair basketball and running basketball, with wheelchair basketball inclusive of both wheelchair users and non-wheelchair users. The teams also compete in the annual Varsity Match against Cambridge in Hilary term and the club organises a College League in Michaelmas and Hilary Terms and a Cuppers Competition in Trinity term, involving teams from many Oxford Colleges.

Inter-College | League & Cuppers

College League is the best way to hone your skills, footwork and tactics outside of the Uni team. Teams can be mixed; both in terms of college and gender, and compete over the first two terms. Games are held at Iffley Road Sports Centre; each team playing once every week or so.

Several of our players have come up through the College League, so if you don't make it through trials; get on it!

For more info contact your College's sports rep or get in touch with the club.
