Oxford University Volleyball Club (OUVC) was first established in 1970. Today, the club brings together about 60 members who represent Oxford at both competitive and recreational levels. OUVC is structured around 3 men’s and 3 women’s teams. The Blues teams compete at national student level in the Western Conference of the BUCS League and the 2nd teams in the Berkshire Volleyball Association (BVA). Both student teams play a Varsity Match against Cambridge every year. The NVL teams play in the National Volleyball League, a highly competitive league open to all adults in the UK.
We are looking for new players and welcome everyone interested in discovering volleyball or playing at a competitive level. Aside from training and matches we try to maintain a good club spirit by organizing social events, formal dinners, volleyball tournaments and alumni matches. If you share our passion for volleyball or would like to give this fantastic sport a try, get in touch or just come to one of our training!
What is volleyball?
The club plays traditional six-a-side indoor volleyball. But, the sport of volleyball has two disciplines – beach volleyball and volleyball. Both disciplines follow the same basic skills, and the flow of play follows similar lines: one team serves, the other tries to win the rally – or ‘side-out’ – with a pattern of dig, set, spike within the requisite three touches.
