Karate – Do Shotokai Club

Karate – Do Shotokai

Karate-do Shotokai is a non-competitive martial art that aims to empower people to improve themselves through the practice of Karate-do, the ‘way of the empty hand’. Our method of karate is based upon using a natural relaxed body condition. By learning how to release excessive muscular tension you can be more effective and powerful in your response and technique.

Oxford University KDS was founded in 2001 by Minh Chung, who previously ran Durham University KDS. The Club practices both at the Iffley Sports Centre and the University Club and welcomes staff, postgraduates and undergraduates of all abilities to all practices. Our Club has two black belt instructors and we have hosted national courses annually since 2005. Roy Margetts (5th Dan), one of the top KDS instructors, visits the club regularly.
