OUBbC has a long tradition of getting students throughout Oxford involved in basketball, with New York Knicks Bill Bradley (Mens Blues 1965-1967) and former US President Bill Clinton (Mens Twos, 1968) amongst its famous alumni.
OUBbC has four teams competing in the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) championships: Mens Blues (Premier League South), Womens Blues (Premier League South), Mens Twos (Midlands Conference 3B) and Womens Twos (Midlands Conference 2B). The teams also compete in the annual Varsity Match against Cambridge in Hilary term and the club organizes a College League in Michaelmas and Hilary Terms and a Cuppers Competition in Trinity term, involving teams from many Oxford Colleges.
What is Basketball…?
Basketball is played by two teams, made up of five players and seven substitutes. The aim of the game for each team is to get the ball into the elevated baskets at either end of the court more times than the opposition, while preventing the opposition from scoring at the same time.
A game is made up of four periods, each lasting 10 minutes of actual playing time. If the scores are tied at the end of the game, extra five-minute overtime periods are played until a winner is declared.
