New College

New College Crest

New College has very good facilities that are conveniently close. This means it’s a big sports college, offering many opportunities to play within college as well as financial support to play for University. We also have our own punts that can be used for free by students. These are kept at the Sports Ground, which has excellent graduate accommodation in addition (with the beautiful two-storey pavilion doubling as the Middle Common Room)

Rugby play in Division 1. Men’s Football have made it to the Cupper’s Final twice in the last few years. Cricket Club won Cuppers in 2012. Women’s Rowing are third on the river. The Boat Club is also proud to be one of the few Oxbridge colleges to have won an Olympic Medal.

The boat club has often competed at Henley Royal Regatta but it’s highest achievement, however, was at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. New College is the only Oxford or Cambridge college to have sent a team to the Olympics – in this case a rowing eight. They won a silver medal, and their legacy lives on in the purple and gold colours of the club.
