Funding is provided to athletes through clubs, colleges and directly to individuals. Club committees can apply for money from the Sports Federation in the form of Annual Grants at the beginning of the academic and Supplementary Grants once a term. This is the money clubs use, in addition to subs and external funding, to run their clubs and provide financial aid for their members.
From colleges, you can often get reimbursed for sports related expenses. Different colleges offer different levels of funding, the best way to find out is to contact your college’s Sports Officer.
Below is a summary of internal and external funding provided for individuals:
Blackwell’s Sport Award
Applications are currently closed
£500 grant to one individuals to be spent on kit, travel, competition and training. Plus 1 year’s complimentary membership at Oxford University Sport including the Rosenblatt Pool and gyms.
- This scheme is open to all student-athletes who are continuing to study at Oxford next year (i.e. not those currently in their final year), from any sport.
- These awards are intended to provide extra financial and sporting support for elite athletes (county to national level) and reward commitment to both University and high-level sport.
Vincent’s club scholarships and bursaries are awarded through the Vincent’s Sports Development Fund. The fund currently provides up to £3,000 for six named scholarships, which can be split between equally deserving candidates, plus some bursaries.
Applications are open throughout the year and assessed on a monthly basis.
The council supports sport at all levels by providing grants to eligible sports, schools, clubs and individuals.
Oxford University Society Sporting Awards
Applications are currently open, and can be applied for here: http://www.alumni.ox.ac.uk/sporting-awards. The deadline for applications is June 1st, 4pm.
Oxford University’s Alumni Association offers four Sporting Awards to individuals worth £250 each to both undergraduate and graduate students at Oxford annually in Trinity term.
The aim of the awards is to provide assistance to talented University sports people and sports clubs, helping them to excel and contribute to the success of sport at Oxford.
