University Sports Clubs
Whether you’re a beginner wishing to try something new or looking for continuity from what you practised at home or at school, we hope that there’s a an Oxford University club that suits you. Our A-Z of sports is a great way to find out which activities are on offer and contact the existing students involved in our clubs.
Many of our clubs compete against other universities in BUCS (British Universities & College Sports) and other inter-university competitions on a regular basis. The strength of Oxford teams has seen us consistently placed in the top 15 institutions in the country.
As well as BUCS, most clubs have a fiercely-contested annual Varsity match against Cambridge which is the highlight of each club’s calendar. These matches alternate annually between the two cities, apart from the high profile Rugby, Rowing, Football and Hockey Varsities which take place in central venues, often in London.
Oxford University Sport provides facilities for many of our sports clubs either at Iffley Road Sports Centre, at University Parks or at Marston Road Sports Ground. Where facilities within the University don’t exist, our sports clubs will utilise local facilities within Oxford. The Sports Federation supports clubs to access the best possible facilities for their sporting activity. If you would like to find out where a specific club trains then please contact them directly using our A-Z of sports.
The Sports Federation aims to support each recognised sports club to develop the programme for their individual sport, in order to enhance the experience of their own club members. If you are a current club member or committee members and have an idea or project for your club that you would like support with please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
