Sophia Saller (St. Catherine’s) and Hannah Johnston (Pembroke, 2013 alum) of the Triathlon club have been busy competing hard on the triathlon scene and are looking forward to racing the London Olympic course in September at the ITU Grand Final!
Last weekend Sports Federation scholar Sophia Saller placed 1st Elite Junior in the Virgin Active London Triathlon!
Sophia is Women’s Captain of oxford University Triathlon Club and in 2012-13 she gained a Full Blue in Triathlon and Cross Country and competed in Varsity and BUCS events for athletics, cross country, triathlon and cycling!
Amongst all that sport Sophia has averaged a First in mathematics and has had some fantastic results:
- 1st German Junior Triathlon Championship (& Qualification for the World Junior Triathlon Championship!)
- 1st Grendon Triathlon, UK (included Oxford v Cambridge Varsity Triathlon)
- 1st Junior Blenheim Triathlon
- 2nd Junior (6th overall), “ASICS Triathlon Jugend Cup” Halle Triathlon, Germany
- 2nd British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Triathlon Championships
- 3rd trials of the German Triathlon Union, Germany
- 6th Senior 2013 Holten ITU Sprint Triathlon Premium European Cup (her first fully senior race)
Recent graduate and 2012-13 OU Triathlon Club President Hannah Johnston, qualified for the ITU Sprint Triathlon World Championships with a good race at the Bristol Habourside triathlon. Despite the recent recovery from injury, she completed the race with her personal best record, 1:13:24 and came 4th in her age group.
Hannah also ranked 4th at aged 20-24 female group in Alyanya ETU Triathlon European Chamionship 2013 afterleading all the way during swimming and cycling, which means she preualifies for next year too!
We wish them both luck in their upcoming competitions to finish the season. Sophia in the Under 23 and Elite German Championships and then the big one for both Hannah and Sophia, the Junior Elite World Championships in London, on the London 2012 Olympic course!

In other Triathlon news….
Congratulations to OUTri triathletes who completed BUCS Olympic distance triathlon. Although the weather was tough, they all finished strongly.
Jordan Thyer, James Graveston, John Ash and Eilot Smith ranked at 21st, 29th, 30th and 62nd overall in men’s group. Eilot did his first triathlon race in a fantastic time, 2:47:26.
Geogrina Hellier, Marie McHughes and Rebecca Howett achieved 13th, 26th and 28th overall in women’s group
