As many teams Varsity Matches and the Varsity Games approach we summarise some of the best league standings, results and highly anticipated fixtures to come over the next few weeks!

Rugby League Men’s 1st beat weary travellers Newcastle University 48-22 at The Parks in what was described as a ‘mudfest’. OURLFC will now travel to play rugby league powerhouses Leeds Met away next week in the Quarter Finals. 2nd team, the Maroons, travel to Derby in their own cup quarter final.

Joining the League boys on route to Leeds are the Women’s Rugby 1st who also take on Leeds Met in their own Championship Quarter Final, after a hard fought victory over Birmingham in the last 16 previously.

Hockey Men’s Blues drew with Bath University 2-2 thus securing the South Premier League by a point over Exeter University in 2nd place. The guys will enter the Championship Knockout draw full of confidence!

Women’s Hockey 2nds are into the Quarter Finals of the cup next week away at Worcester University. Mens 3rd team have won their league and although the Men’s 2nds have been relegated from a tough league, they have built a cup run taking part in the conference cup quarter finals next week against Lincoln University away.

Next Wednesday Badminton Men’s 1st take on Sheffield Hallam at Oxford University Sport in the Last 16 of the Championship after finishing runners up in the South Premier League to Bath University. The winners will play Loughborough or Bristol University away in the semi finals on 12 March.

Basketball Men’s 1st will take on Northumbria University next Wednesday. The winners will progress to the Final 8s of the Championship Basketball competition on the 15th-16th March in a Quarter Final against Durham University.

Whilst the Basketball Women’s 1st have finished 2nd in their Southern Premier League meaning they progress straight to the Final 8s.

Fencing Blues both have tough draws in the Championship Knockouts with long journeys ahead. Men’s 1st travel to Durham University and the Women 1st to Edinburgh. The team will be flying up in the farthest of our team’s away trips next Wednesday, and hopefully jetting back down that evening with the win!

Men’s and Women’s Fencing 2nds have both won their leagues, a fantastic achievement. The Men’s 2nds are also into the semi finals of the Midlands Conference Cup away to East Anglia 1st on 12th March.

Volleyball Women’s 1st will host Swansea University next week and Men’s 1st go to Leeds Met in quarter finals of the Championship Last 16 this weekend.

Tennis Women’s 1st travel to London School of Economics in a Trophy Quarter Final clash.

Both Men’s and Women’s Water Polo teams are taking on Sheffield Hallam in the Championship Knockouts, date to be confirmed.

Good luck to all teams in action next week, it promises to be a crunch day in many of their seasons. Progressing to the latter stages of Championship Knockouts is a big achievement and we wish you all well.
