Blues Performance Scheme

The scheme supports Blues athletes at Oxford University to improve their long term performance in sport whilst balancing their academic commitments. This is achieved through a coordinated offer of support, which can be seen below. Register here to get involved. Fundamentals

Education

Any registered athlete can attend our free workshops to assist you in improving your performance, including nutrition, psychology and much more. Register here, then find out about upcoming workshops and sign up here.

Team Strength and Conditioning

Any registered team can access free strength and conditioning sessions. Register here, let us know which day and time are best for your team and we will get in touch. Please note sessions can only be allocated where we have an S&C lead and facility availability.

Classes

Injury Treatment

Any registered athlete can access our subsidised injury treatment to get back to training. Register here then request an appointment by emailing performance@sport.ox.ac.uk. Appointments are £35 and £15 per appointment can be reimbursed at the end of each term.

Additional Support

Individual or Group

Any registered athlete (or group of athletes) may be suggested for additional support by their club coach, their S&C lead or the injury treatment team. To find out how to recommend an athlete for additional support please email performance@sport.ox.ac.uk.

Club Funding

Any registered team can apply for additional funding for coaching or facilities. Applications must be well justified and supported by a club coach, S&C lead or the clubs committee (only when there is no formal coaching in place).

Register now by submitting a Individual Athlete – Blues Membership Form online. If you are a team and find it easier to register in bulk then please download the Team – Blues Membership Form, complete with your teams details and email to performance@sport.ox.ac.uk. Team forms must be submitted by a captain or club president to be accepted.

Registration will allow you to have access to all the fundamental support and if you register as a team you can also express an interest in team strength and conditioning, which will be allocated for free providing we have a coach and facility available.

Fundamentals: Classes

Any registered athlete can attend our free weekly classes to supplement their training. Also a great option for team members who can’t attend team strength and conditioning sessions.

Register here, then sign up to individual classes at reception or call 01865 611476. Any athlete who attempts to attend a class without booking onto the class will not be granted access. All classes run weeks 0-10 unless noted below.

 What does each session mean?

Circuits (Conditioning):

This session will include core fitness exercise to improve your conditioning specifically for your sport. Exercises will work on a variety of attributes including flexibility, core, balance, strength and power and focusing on multiple movement planes.

Functional core/Activation:

These sessions are based considering the scope of the AA phase, exercises are selected to develop the core area of the body as well as the main muscles used in your sport. Exercises that train muscles from multi-angles and planes are also incorporated along with an overall flexibility program and activation exercises.

Pool Recovery/Resistance:

This session is to restore the balance of tension and mobility into the exercised limbs. Incorporating a series of exercises to effectively reset your body following an intensive training or competitive schedule . Can also be used as a conditioning class depending on each athlete’s workload and work rate.

Pilates:

To improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture.

Fundamentals: Team Strength and Conditioning

Any registered team can access free strength and conditioning sessions. Register here, let us know which day and time are best for your team and we will get in touch. Please note sessions can only be allocated where we have an S&C lead and facility availability.

The core offer for teams is to have a weekly S&C session (usually within our Blues Performance Gym at Iffley Road although other venues can be utilised) with a lead coach from 0th Week to 9th Week, spanning two terms per year. Testing at the start of each term and a programme for athletes to follow for training (both in their own time and in vacations) are also included in the core offer. If you would like to adapt the core offer for your team, please email performance@sport.ox.ac.uk. If your team joins the programme part way through the year, you may not receive sessions for two complete terms.

We also offer the following ‘Open Gym Sessions’ in our Blues Performance Gym, which are only available to those athletes who have a programme from a member of our S&C team. These sessions allow athletes to work on their own individual programme outside of their weekly team session. Athletes must book on at reception or call 01865 611476 to confirm their place for each session. Any athlete who attempts to attend a class without booking onto the class will not be granted access. Fundamentals: Injury Treatment

Any registered athlete can access our subsidised injury treatment to get back to training. Register here then request an appointment by emailing performance@sport.ox.ac.uk.

Appointments are £35 and £15 per treatment can be reimbursed  at the end of each term. It is the responsibility of the athlete to ensure their bank details are submitted to performance@sport.ox.ac.uk before 23:59, Friday, 9th Week of each term. Any treatments without corresponding bank details cannot be reimbursed for that term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up?

Submit an Individual Athlete – Blues Membership Form online or complete the Team – Blues Membership Form and email to performance@sport.ox.ac.uk. This will allow you to have access to all the fundamentals support and if submitting as a team you can also express an interest in team strength and conditioning.

My team wants strength and conditioning sessions, how do I arrange this?

Register here as a team and express your interest in times and days that fit with your current training schedule. If your team are already registered then please email performance@sport.ox.ac.uk to request additions or changes to sessions. A member of our team will be in touch to confirm if we can accommodate sessions for your team and when they will start.

How can I register for fundamental: classes?

Once you are registered as an athlete, choose from our classes timetable, then you can sign up for classes at reception in Iffley Road Sports Centre or by calling 01865 611476.

How can I register for education sessions?

Once you are registered as an athlete, choose from our upcoming education sessions, then you can sign up for sessions using the eventbrite links on this page.

How can I claim a reimbursement for injury treatment?

You do not need to claim for your treatment reimbursement. Providing your treatment is logged using a ‘BPS Sports Therapy Treatment Record’ form and we have your bank details registered before 23:59 on Friday of 9th Week, then you will be automatically reimbursed at the end of each term. To check the status of a treatment and register or change your bank details please email performance@sport.ox.ac.uk.
