Posted on: November 28th, 2012

University of Oxford student and German junior international triathlete Sophia Saller has won her first national British Universities & Colleges Sport title.

Saller, who is in her second year studying mathematics at St Catherine’s College, struck gold in the 2012 BUCS Duathlon at Castle Combe race circuit in Chippenham last weekend. The result improves on her bronze in the same event last year.

Sophia was nominated “Oxford University Sportswoman of the Year 2011-12” after some fantastic results including:

  • 1st woman in the 2012 Triathlon Varsity achieving a Full Blue
  • BUCS 3rd 2011 Duathlon & 5th 2012 Triathlon
  • 2nd British Triathlon Junior Super Series
  • 1st Virgin Active London Triathlon Sprint

Oxford University Triathlon Club sent over 35 athletes to the event, after a great first term in which they have accommodated more members than ever before with extra sessions.

Men’s team triathlete Aistis Simaitis (Magdalen College) acheived the fastest lap of the course, a fantastic acheivment in such a stellar field, and Saller’s result helped the women achieve  5th overall in the University team standings for the event, well done all!
