The prestigious Oxford Half Marathon is now in its 3rd year and will start from the Kassam Stadium Complex on Sunday 13th October 2013.
MINI Plant Oxford has continued as the official Headline Sponsor for the 3rd year.
The route is largely traffic free with highlights of the course including running through the impressive MINI Plant, where MINI cars will line the route in celebration of 100 years of car making in Oxford. Then, past the Iffley Road Running Track, made famous by Sir Roger Bannister breaking the 4-minute mile in 1954, then over the impressive Magdalen Bridge, towards the city centre. The route then continues past the spectacular backdrop of the University College grounds, through the glorious section of the Thames Path, by kind permission of the Thames Trails, before finishing with a “roar” into the Kassam Stadium itself.
After the great feedback from last year, the event will again feature the original “battle of the bands” competition, where participants will actually vote for their favourite musical bands along the course. These bands will be giving fantastic encouragement to all competitors.
Also, the organisers for this year have, introduced some exciting new features for the event that will make it a truly unforgettable day for all participants, residents and supporters alike, with more details to follow.
At the Kassam Stadium, the Oxford Half Marathon team have produced one of the most comprehensive athletic villages for an event of this size and lots of entertainment for the whole family.
Current entrants are up by 100% on last year’s figure at this stage, and they are growing rapidly.
