Oxford Skiers Slalom to Varsity Success

Posted on: January 6th, 2014

Oxford University Ski and Snowboard Club (OUSSC) achieved an overall victory on the slopes of Tignes in the 2013 Varsity races against Cambridge!

The races are the pinnacle of the Varsity Snow Games, which take place during the hugely popular Varsity Trip every year in December, after term has finished.

Oxford won the extremely close Men’s 1sts competition by only 1.10 seconds over a total team time of 12 minutes 3 seconds!

Jamie Reid (Oxford) took the overall title, coming in 8.1 secs faster than Cambridge’s J.P. Espinosa (Cambridge).

After the Giant Slalom the Oxford men were trailing by 0.21s, but recovered in the Slalom to claim this year’s bragging rights, by the tightest of margins!

Oxford’s top placed female skier, Helena Pickford, came 2nd in the women’s competition to Benedetta Pacella of Cambridge by 4.01s.

Helena’s times were good enough to place 13th in the overall standings including men and women, a great achievement.
