This year Oxford University Polo Club has set a new Varsity record. The 118th Varsity Polo match, which this year was played on Saturday 4th June at Guards Polo Club was won 19-0 – the previous record was 19-1 in 1911. This really is a testament to all the hard work that has gone in to making the polo club what it is today, one which is bigger and better than it ever has been, and we would like to thank you all for the support that has been given to the Club over the past few years, and particularly this year. A complete match report is available here:
On a related note, this year the Club relaunched and co-hosted the Atlantic Cup, played between Harvard, Yale, Cambridge, and Oxford, and last played in 2009. The tournament was held from Friday 3rd–Sunday 5th June over 3 venues, with the Varsity match on Saturday being incorporated in to the tournament. Oxford defeated Yale 11-0 on Friday at our home ground, defeated Cambridge 19-0 on Saturday, and lost to Harvard 14-4 on Sunday in Cambridge. However, as both Harvard and Oxford had won two matches each, Oxford won the Atlantic Cup on goal difference, with a substantial margin!
All in all, a successful and historic weekend for Oxford polo!
