Oxford MCCU play Surrey CCC at The Parks, Oxford on 22nd – 24th May 2013. 11am start each day, free admission to the general public.
Surrey have named a strong, twelve man squad for the three day game against Oxford MCCU at The Parks starting on Wednesday.
England players present and past Chris Tremlett, Stuart Meaker and Jon Lewis are all named alongside rising stars Rory Burns, Arun Harinath and Jason Roy (England Lions), who will captain the team. The squad also features young talented performers Dom Sibley (current England U19), George Edwards and Matthew Dunn (former England U19).
Chris Adams commented: “We have named a strong squad for this game against Oxford MCCU and we know they will provide us with an excellent test. We have rested a number of players but that provides others with an opportunity over the next three days to showcase their talent and put themselves in the shop window for 1st XI selection.”
Oxford’s Coach Graham Charlesworth said: “I am confident in the side we have put out and it will be a great experience for them playing against internationals such as Tremlett and Meaker. We have already faced two very strong sides this year from Warwickshire and Worcestershire and played really well, winning some key sessions so if we can do so again it will have been a great encounter.
Jon Lewis is our current fast bowling coach and has worked with all our guys. They really respect him and, as a senior pro in the Surrey side I’m sure he teaches their young guys a lot too, he is a great role model. Some of the boys remember Rory Burns from his time at Cardiff MCCU so it will be great to have three days cricket and learn more of what it takes to become a professional from someone who has come through the academy system also.
The boys know if they achieve runs or wickets against the counties the whole world knows about it. Developing players is what we as a centre are about, these games are the visible test to our programme, the culmination of their hard work in the winter and could lead to professional contracts in the future if they keep working hard and impressing.”
